The owners, a retired couple, understood that investing now in the reform of their property will not only sharply drive its value higher and secure the financial asset that is a home, but that modernizing it would also instantly benefit everyone, them and their family.

Bahia del Faro was conceived as a family vacation apartment. A place to reunite siblings, to gather up generations together, and to create memories.

A home where grand parents share their grand children's first steps with the parents, each year becoming more proud of their offspring. A place where cousins would create their bond, and brothers reconcile.

A haven of peace, love, to laugh and play, to cook, eat, drink and share stories.

But as years pass by, the needs and aspirations of everyone start to change, and the furniture and layout aimed at toddlers become obsolete for teenagers and adults inclined to get the most of their precious time.

Eager to preserve their family reunion intact, they knew they had to evolve alongside their family changing needs.

And as the Lady reminded us, quoting the novel from Giuseppe Tomasi The Leopard  : “If we want things to stay as they are, everything must change..", line made famous by Alain Delon addressing Burt Lancaster in the movie adaptation from 1963.

Layout Strategy

Through our chit-chats with the family members, we learned about their Eastern Mediterranean heritage and our approach to bring hints of culturally inspired elements was warmly welcomed.

Modern infused furniture combined with accents of more antique patterns and colors bring a sense of consistency, passing down heritage and adapting tradition to modernity, remembering history while living the present. Calming wood tones and warm, earthy colors were favored to define the design identity into its natural environment, and as the canvas for more audacious additions.

The renovation also focused on improving the apartment's energy performance through targeted technical upgrades, including :

  • Replacing existing windows with high-performance double-glazed units with thermally broken aluminium frames and low-emissivity (Low-E) glass, which reduce heat transfer while improving airtightness and enhancing acoustic insulation.

  • Upgrading the original HVAC equipment to a high-efficiency inverter heat pump system, providing lower energy consumption and year-round climate control.

  • Installing large-format porcelain floor tiles for their durability, low maintenance and high thermal conductivity, helping to regulate indoor temperatures.

Together, these upgrades improve the apartment's overall energy efficiency, thermal comfort and long-term performance.

The design draws inspiration from the Mediterranean landscape, combining warm natural tones, tactile fabrics and organic forms to create a calm and contemporary retreat. Textured wall finishes, timber detailing and softly sculpted furniture bring depth and character while maintaining a sense of simplicity and natural elegance.

The curved architectural elements and bespoke furniture echo the surrounding landscape, creating a softer dialogue between the interior and the views beyond. A palette of earthy greens, warm neutrals and deep burgundy accents adds richness and individuality, while the abundant natural light keeps the atmosphere fresh, relaxed and timeless.
